Dairy farms can be exciting places to work with lots of opportunities. As an employee, dairy farming gives you a job that is outdoors, working with animals, machinery and other people. It also provides a great way to gain skills that are ‘transportable’ (useful if you want to travel) and that can start you on the road to owning your own herd, farm or other assets.
To make a job work for both the staff and the boss, it’s important that everyone knows the fundamentals. It’s essential that each employee knows what is expected in their role, what their wages and leave and other conditions will be, what behaviour is expected on the farm, and how their performance will be judged.
This module gives an overview for employees to understand the basics of Australian workplaces, especially dairy farms. This will help get the whole employment relationship off to a great start.
