King’s Birthday – QLD (Monday, 6 October 2025)
4 OCTOBER 2025
Queenslanders will enjoy a public holiday on Monday, 6 October 2025 to celebrate the King’s Birthday. While other states mark this occasion in June, Queensland traditionally observes it in October.
Employees have the right to be absent from work on public holidays. Employers can only require work if the request is reasonable, and employees may refuse if they have reasonable grounds.
For employees rostered to work Mondays who take the day off, they will receive the base pay rate for their ordinary hours. Remember, this excludes bonuses, loadings, or penalty rates. If they’re not usually scheduled to work Mondays, they won’t be paid for the holiday unless your employment agreement provides otherwise.
For further information see Fair Work Ombudsman – Not working on public holidays.
