Big Brother – Monitoring Cow Behaviour for Profitability

In this module students will have the opportunity to explore and experience the application of emerging electronic monitoring technologies currently being implemented on dairy farms.

Students will learn about the technology of cow collars and work with real data extracted from dairy farm businesses to manage cow productivity and business revenue.

This module was created in collaboration with the NSW Department of Primary Industries and addresses the following outcomes of the HSC Agriculture syllabus.

Introduction to the Dairy Industry

Here’s an overview of the Australian dairy industry. Explore the importance of milk quantity and quality in farmer income, and the main components of milk.

Module 2:
Cow Collars in Action

Monitoring the health and wellbeing of large herds of cows is challenging. Discover how cow collars are automating monitoring of herd health, and work with real data extracted from dairy farm businesses.

Case Study

Explore how two different Australian dairy farms are implementing cow collars as part of their business practice.
